BCCI to take India-Pakistan 2023 World Cup match to Narendra Modi Stadium

According to the Indian Express, the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad will host the India and Pakistan match in the 2023 ODI World Cup. The venue is the largest cricket stadium in the world, with a capacity of over 1 lakh.

The BCCI is set to announce the schedule of the World Cup after the completion of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL).

As per reports, seven venues will host India’s league matches. The Ahmedabad stadium is also rumoured to host the final of the World Cup.

The report stated that the World Cup would commence on October 5. Mumbai, Delhi, Lucknow, Nagpur, Bengaluru, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Rajkot, Indore, Bengaluru, Dharamshala, Kolkata and Trivandrum are the short-listed venues. Due to security concerns, Pakistan would play most of their games in Chennai and Bengaluru.

Additionally, sources said that Team India approached the BCCI to schedule their matches against Australia, England, New Zealand, and South Africa at locations supporting spinners.

“The Indian team delivers great on slow tracks. So the team management requested that whenever the schedule is being prepared, the Indian team should face top teams on slow pitches. They wanted to have a home advantage.”

Before the World Cup, the BCCI allocated more than ₹500 crore to upgrade venues all throughout India. Clean restrooms, simple access, and clean seating are the top priorities.
