Dhoni can’t bat for long: CSK head coach makes honest confession about unfit captain

Chennai Super Kings sealed a 27-run win over Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League 2023. Defending a target of 168 runs, the Yellow Army restricted DC to 140/8 in 20 overs, with Matheesha Pathirana taking three wickets.

For CSK, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shivam Dube, Ambati Rayudu, MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja made useful contributions with the bat. Mitchell Marsh took three wickets for Delhi.

Captain Dhoni slammed 20 runs off nine balls at a strike rate of 222.22, laced with one four and two sixes.

Dhoni is not fit in the 16th season, with knee injury hampering his running. Speaking after the match, Stephen Fleming lauded his captain.

“He can’t bat for a long time. Dhoni is training keeping his fitness issues in mind. He wants to bat in the last three overs as he can’t run fast between the wickets. Dhoni tried hard against Delhi Capitals,” he said.

“He is a good hitter of the ball. Dhoni is strong in certain areas. His 20 runs took CSK to a challenging total,” he added.
