The 16th edition of the IPL is nearing its end. All the franchises are left with one group stage game, and for Lucknow Super Giants, they will face Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens on May 20.
Ahead of the all-important match for both teams, Lucknow Super Giants have announced a special tribute for the city of Kolkata as they will wear a Mohun Bagan colour jersey.
LSG took to Twitter to announce that they will don Mohun Bagan’s famous green and maroon-coloured jersey instead of their usual colours. Here are the pictures of the photoshoot in Mohun Bagan’s colours.
Notably, Mohun Bagan is one of the most successful clubs in Kolkata and have a long-standing rivalry against East Bengal, which is one of the most anticipated and watched football game in India.
Interestingly, LSG owners, the Goenka group, bought majority stakes in Mohun Bagan in 2020, and the club will be rebranded as Mohun Bagan Super Giants from June 1.
Speaking about the special gesture, LSG and Mohun Bagan owner Shashwat Goenka stated, “Mohun Bagan is not just a club, but an emotion. Its legacy represents the city of Kolkata.”
“We decided that LSG will wear the iconic colours of the great club to respect the legacy of Mohun Bagan and the city. I hope not just the club’s supporters, but the people of Kolkata will also support us against KKR.
Lucknow are 3rd on the table with 15 points in 13 games, and an SRH win today against RCB would guarantee them a spot in the playoffs.
