On Saturday, May 20, the 67th game of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) featured a matchup between the Delhi Capitals, led by David Warner, and the four-time champion Chennai Super Kings at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
After winning the toss and electing to bat first, the Chennai Super Kings got off to a fantastic start as Devon Conway and Ruturaj Gaikwad played exceptional innings. Gaikwad scored 79 runs, and Conway scored 87 runs in 52 deliveries while batting alongside him.
Their contributions helped Chennai score 223 runs and ultimately win by 77 runs. CSK, led by MS Dhoni, became the second team in the IPL 2023 to qualify for the semifinals on the strength of their dominant performance.
In addition, former New Zealand cricketer Simon Doull praised the 31-year-old after witnessing Conway’s scorching innings. Even more, Doull opined that Conway is a legitimately talented cricketer who has posted remarkable numbers in the IPL 2023.
“Conway averages nearly 50 in the IPL and has scored 140 runs in just 21 outings. Those are astounding proportions. Conway has had an extraordinary run. He employs traditional cricket strikes. He is a truly talented cricketer. “He plays spin and pace exceptionally well,” Doull told Cricbuzz.
“Such personalities have always been present in Chennai. Shane Watson and Michael Hussey are both good players, but they are not T20 superstars, particularly Michael Hussey. When you think of Faf du Plessis, you do not think of brute force. However, Chennai has always had one, and Conway is another,” he continued.
Conway is currently in third place in the competition for the IPL 2023 Orange Cap with 585 runs in 14 games, thanks to his brilliant half-century against Delhi Capitals. As one of the most vital players for the four-time champions, Chennai will rely on his services in the IPL 2023 Qualifier 1 as well.
