Alabama still has hopes of winning the SEC again and earning a spot in the College Football Playoffs.
At Bryant-Denny Stadium on Saturday night, the Crimson Tide overcame rival LSU 42-28 to avenge their loss from the previous year and maintain their advantage in the SEC West competition.
Although it began as a shootout, the Tide eventually gained the upper hand and defeated the Tigers.
Jalen Milroe of the Crimson Tide was outstanding; he completed 20 rushes for 155 yards and completed 219 passes for 219 yards. With four rushing touchdowns, he broke the record for quarterbacks in Alabama.
For the bulk of the game, Jayden Daniels’ play was identical to his. The Heisman Trophy candidate from LSU, who went 15-for-25 passing for 219 yards and two touchdowns and added 163 yards and another touchdown on the ground, had few answers early on for Alabama. However, Daniels was forced to leave the game in the fourth quarter after being struck and receiving a roughing-the-pass penalty, which prompted him to enter concussion protocol.
That deflated any hopes of an LSU victory.
At halftime, the score was deadlocked at 21 points apiece. LSU took the lead on their opening play of the second half, driving straight down the field. However, that would stop the top offence in college football from scoring.
Alabama tied the score with a touchdown in response. After Alabama’s touchdown run, LSU attempted its first punt of the game, giving Alabama a commanding advantage. Daniels intercepted a pass two plays into LSU’s subsequent possession, allowing Alabama to score two more.
The following drive, Daniels was injured, and that was that.
- Clemson 31, No. 12 Notre Dame 23
- No. 25 North Carolina 59, Campbell 7
- No. 6 Texas 33, Kansas State 30 (OT)

- No. 16 Tennessee 59, UConn 3
- No. 3 Ohio State 35, Rutgers 16

- No. 19 Oregon State 26, Colorado 19
- Arizona 27, No. 20 UCLA 10
For LSU, a 42-28 deficit in the fourth quarter seemed like a non-issue. A heavy hit from Alabama’s Dallas Turner resulted in a roughing the passer penalty for quarterback Jayden Daniels, a candidate for the Heisman Trophy, and caused Daniels to leave the game.
Daniels lay on his stomach for a short while after appearing shaken up on the play. Trainers checked on him, and he emerged to set up Garrett Nussmeier, who found Brian Thomas on a 5-yard pass. Daniels returned, but after an LSU timeout and a false start, he left once more and went to the blue medical tent. To take his position, Nussmeier returned.
CBS reported that Daniels was in the concussion protocol and would miss the rest of the game.
For three quarters, LSU and Alabama played clean football; nonetheless, Tigers quarterback Jayden Daniels gave up the game’s first turnover. Terrion Arnold, an Alabama defensive back, intercepted a ball that Daniels intended for Malik Nabers at the LSU 27-yard line after it was tipped at the line of scrimmage. Daniels had now intercepted four passes this season.
Using the takeaway, Alabama extended their lead over LSU to 42-28 by finding the end zone. Jase McClellan rushed for a 10-yard score as a running back. A horse collar tackle penalty against LSU LB Harold Perkins kept the drive going.
In terms of defence, LSU coach Brian Kelly stated, “We got to make a stop sooner or later.” “We have battled.”
Fourth place, four touchdowns on the ground.
With an 11-yard rushing score, Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe put an end to the team’s six-play, 68-yard touchdown drive. It was his fourth touchdown of the game from scrimmage, a record for a quarterback at the institution. In this game, his season total of rushing touchdowns stood at five.
It seemed like his third touchdown run again in his fourth. He appeared to be about to throw the ball, which helped him fool a defender, then he turned on the jets and broke multiple tackles.
Milroe has already accumulated 200 throwing yards and 142 rushing yards in the contest.
There are others making history besides him. On Saturday, Alabama kicker Will Reichard scored his 500th point, breaking the all-time record for points scored in the NCAA. UGA leads 35–28.
In response, the Crimson Tide scored a touchdown that was entirely on the ground. With a 30-yard kickoff return, receiver Kendrick Law gave Alabama a favourable field position. On seven run plays, they moved the ball down the field in a straight line. QB Jalen Milroe’s 18-yard sprint to convert a third-and-10 was the longest play of the game. Roydell Williams’ 16-yard touchdown run brought the drive to a close.
The score is knotted once more, 28–28.
LSU scored first to begin the second half. The 9-play, 75-yard drive was completed with a 2-yard rushing touchdown by running back Josh Williams. Quarterback Jayden Daniels connected with receiver Malik Nabers for 17- and 30-yard completions.
Daniels has 155 rushing yards and another touchdown, in addition to 211 passing yards and two touchdowns. With seven receptions, Nabers has 136 yards.
Tigers ahead, Crimson Tide, 28–21.
Alabama took too long to depart from LSU.
To tie the game going into halftime, 21-21, the Tigers were able to march 75 yards down the field in 56 seconds. With a 40-yard run and a 28-yard run from quarterback Jayden Daniels, LSU accomplished this in just five plays. Daniels’ 26-yard touchdown pass to receiver Kyren Lacy completed the drive.
Thus far, the quarterback competition has been fierce since they appear to be unbeatable while running the ball. In addition to 137 rushing yards and one touchdown, Daniels has 164 yards in the air and two passing touchdowns. Jalen Milroe of Alabama has 165 yards through the air, 82 yards on the ground, and three touchdowns on the ground.
“The quarterbacks are both evasive. Plays can be made by either team. At halftime, LSU head coach Brian Kelly stated, “It really comes down to making stops.” “For the next four quarters, things will be like this. Please fasten your seat belt. There is still work to be done.
When it comes to converting third downs, Alabama has been marginally more effective with the ball, going 7 for 9, while LSU has only gone 2 for 4 and 0 for 1 on fourth downs.
The result may be better. Each team failed to make a field goal.
For Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Jalen Milroe, the LSU Tigers haven’t come up with a solution.
To convert a third down on its 33-yard line, Alabama needed three yards. LSU anticipated a run or a quick pass from Milroe, but he found running back Jam Miller for a 35-yard pass down the field instead. A walk-in touchdown seemed when Milroe overthrew receiver Isaiah Bond, but instead, he found the end zone on a 21-yard touchdown run, his third of the game.
Before accelerating up the middle for the score, Milroe pretended to throw at the line of scrimmage in order to trick defenders while on the run. He can travel up to 165 yards in the air and 82 yards on land.
Alabama is ahead 21–14.
In Tuscaloosa, it’s all the same.
The Tigers scored after failing to score on their previous two drives due to a field goal attempt that was missed and a botched fourth-down convert. Jayden Daniels tied the score at 14-14 with a 9-yard touchdown run after punting the ball into the end zone.
In addition to picking up 69 yards and one touchdown via footwork, Daniels has completed eight passes for 137 yards and one touchdown.
With 89 yards for the game, Malik Nabers leads all Tigers receivers. During the touchdown drive, he grabbed two catches for 21 yards.
Dubbed the announcer jinx?
Alabama kicker Will Reichard came onto the field for a 47-yard try, and CBS commentator Brad Nessler emphasised that he has not missed a field goal or extra point this entire season. Reichard then attempted a wide right field goal but missed it.
Nessler said, “Oh boy, no good.”
In the match, both sides have missed field goals. LSU is now down 14-7 by Alabama.
Jayden Daniels, the quarterback for the Tigers, ran 28 yards in a hurry to reach the 50-yard line. After an incomplete pass, a run for no gain, and a sack, the drive came to an abrupt halt. He found his favourite target, receiver Malik Nabers, on a 22-yard pass to get to Alabama’s 25-yard line.
Kicker Damian Ramos of LSU attempted a 46-yard field goal, but he was unsuccessful.
LSU is now down 14-7 by Alabama.
The Tigers took a chance, but it didn’t pay off.
In a fourth-and-one situation, LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels chose to pass to wide receiver Malik Nabers. However, the Tigers failed to convert and gave up the ball on downs at the 42-yard line of the Crimson Tide.
To get into the red zone, Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe found receiver Isaiah Bond for a 21-yard throw. Milroe used his feet to complete the task. His second rushing touchdown of the game came after he ran three straight yards for a touchdown.
With 14 points in a row, Alabama leads LSU 14–7. 35 running yards and 86 throwing yards for Milroe.
People, it looks like we may be in for a shootout.
Alabama responded with a five-play, 76-yard drive of its own after LSU had gained 85 yards on just five plays. Jalen Milroe, the quarterback, shredded LSU with his arm and legs for all but four of the drive’s yards. With an extra point and a 23-yard run to the end zone, he sealed the drive and tied the score at seven points.
With a 46-yard touchdown pass downfield to receiver Malik Nabers, who ran into the end zone unharmed, quarterback Jayden Daniels gave the Tigers the early lead. Following a personal foul on Alabama linebacker Dallas Turner, which put the Tigers at their 42-yard line, LSU received assistance on the drive.
7-0 is the Tigers’ lead.
On CBS, LSU vs. Alabama is scheduled to kick off at 7:45 p.m. ET.
Alabama and LSU have faced off 87 times, with the Crimson Tide leading the series 55-27-5.
Alabama was the dominant team in the early years of the rivalry, winning 11 straight games from 1971 to 1981. However, since then, there has been a significant increase in competition, with Alabama leading the last 42 encounters, 24-17-1.
When No. 1 LSU defeated No. 2 Alabama 9-6 in Tuscaloosa in 2011, it was one of their most well-known games. The national championship game between the two teams was determined by teams from the same conference for the first time in the BCS era when they faced off in the 2012 BCS National Championship Game. Alabama would win the national title with a commanding 21-0 victory.
The 31st meeting between the two teams as ranked opponents on Saturday is the fourth-most in FBS history, behind only Michigan vs. Ohio State, Oklahoma vs. Texas, and Notre Dame vs. USC.
The Crimson Tide, along with Georgia, are the only SEC teams unbeaten in conference play with records of 7-1 and 5-0 in the league. After losing to Texas at home in Week 2, Alabama was taken aback and concerns about their offensive line were raised. However, the Tide have recovered to win their last six games and are still in the running for the College Football Playoffs.
Although Jalen Milroe, who was benched early in the season, has found some rhythm at quarterback, the Crimson Tide defence has been the star of the show. The team only surrenders 16.5 points and 306.4 yards per contest, which rank 17th in the nation. In every victory this season, the defence has surrendered fewer than 21 points; in the September victory, Texas scored 34 points.
With a 6-2 record and a 4-1 SEC record, LSU will enter Bryant-Denny Stadium. Following their humiliation at the hands of Florida State in Orlando during the season’s opening game, LSU defeated Arkansas, Mississippi State, and Grambling in a row.
After suffering their first SEC loss in a road shootout against Ole Miss, the Tigers have bounced back to win three straight games, including double-digit victories against Missouri, Auburn, and Army.
With 47.4 points and 552.9 yards per game, LSU’s offence is the best in the nation and has been all season. With his third-best passing yardage average of 321.6 per game and a record-tying 25 passing touchdowns—along with current Heisman Trophy winner Caleb Williams—quarterback Jayden Daniels is also a strong contender for the Heisman Trophy.
November signals that the 2023 college football regular season is nearing its conclusion. This means that a few more games will decide which teams advance to play for the national title.
The SEC West title game between No. 13 LSU and No. 8 Alabama is one of the games that will kick off the action on Saturday. Other games featuring some of the best teams in the US LBM Coaches Poll will also take place.
And so it does, leading up to what appears to be the biggest college football matchup of the year between No. 2 Michigan and No. 3 Ohio State, with the winner most likely going to the Big Ten title game. This continues through the month.
Make-or-break matches involving the top teams in each of the Power Five leagues and the Group of Five are interspersed throughout.

Watch this: Fasten your seatbelt. This one promises to be an amazing aerial performance that would make Bessie Coleman proud. With a difficult final month ahead of them, the Huskies must hope that their poor performances are in the past. Even though the Trojans aren’t playing at their best right now—they just narrowly avoided defeat by California—they are still more than capable of scoring a significant amount. Michael Penix Jr. of the Huskies and Caleb Williams of USC have combined for 49 scoring throws. Both of them have also had to take some risks in order to make up for defensive deficiencies, so we may see opportunities for choices for players like Washington CB Mishael Powell and Trojans DB Calen Bullock. Tahj Washington and Brenden Rice, two wide receivers, are Williams’ main breakaway threats, whereas Penix frequently targets Rome Odunze and Ja’Lynn Polk.
Why it might disappoint: This game might not be for you if you find offensive play to be poorly executed defensively. However, this one could remain intriguing far into the fourth quarter given the explosive potential of both passing attacks. Timanus, Eddie.
This is our expert selection for college football’s 10th week:
The first College Football Playoff rankings had Ohio State ranked as the top team. But do Georgia, Michigan, or even Florida State not rank lower in the nation than the Ohio State Buckeyes? The Michigan sign-stealing story, which is getting worse and stranger, was not taken into account by the committee when rating the top 25 teams. After Clemson’s defeat by North Carolina State on Monday, head coach Dabo Swinney had an absurd conversation with a caller on his radio programme. This week’s College Football Fix has Dan Wolken and Paul Myerberg talking about these subjects and previewing a crucial schedule of Week 10 games. — Erick S.
